Tips on how to compare broadband and phone deals
There are a lot of factors to consider when choosing the best broadband and phone deal for your circumstances. Below we break down the points we think are most important.
Cost: Understanding the monthly budget you’re willing to invest in broadband and phone each month is essential, as it’s a long-term commitment, usually 18-24 month contracts.
Speed: Connection is one of the most crucial factors when considering broadband packages.
Do you enjoy streaming movies or tv shows on Netflix or Disney +? Nobody wants to buffer, right?
Netflix requires a minimum of 15Mbps for 4k streaming while Disney + is 25Mbps. Considering their requirements, we recommend 65Mbps if streaming is commonplace in your household, as guaranteed speeds can vary. Reach out to us through our chat functionality if you’re unsure what to choose so we can provide guidance.
Landline: Most broadband and phone providers will offer landline packages as you complete the checkout process. Keep in mind that if you exclude a bolt-on, you will incur charges per minute. So factor in your landline phone usage before considering an offer. It’s becoming more popular for households to use broadband-only deals as they rely on mobile phone usage instead of a landline. Use the filter option to display broadband-only offers if they fit your requirements.
Compare Offers: Now that you have set out your requirements on price, speed, and phone, you’re ready to start searching the market. Just enter your postcode to display all offers available in your area. Then utilize the filter options to find offers in your price and speed range and manipulate the tables through the sorting filter, i.e., sort by price low to high. The results will display all offers in your location at your speed and price point!
Reward cards & vouchers
Often, you’ll find providers launching promotions offering reward cards with values of up to £200, sometimes even greater amounts, along with voucher promotions such as an Amazon voucher. These deals are displayed clearly in our comparison tables, so keep your eyes peeled or utilize our filter options to show deals that include a reward or bill credit.
Frequently asked questions
Yes, you can cancel the agreement anytime, but if it’s before the end of the minimum term, you will likely incur an early cancellation fee. Terms vary by provider, but sometimes it’s worth considering an early termination fee when switching providers to a better offer.
Suppose your current provider uses the open reach network, and you are switching to another provider who utilizes the same network (Most companies use Open reach, as an example, BT, EE, Sky, TalkTalk & Vodafone all use this network). In that case, you do not need to inform your provider. Your old and new providers will issue a letter confirming the cancellation and switch. Remember that you may incur cancellation fees if you’re in contract with your current provider.
However, suppose you’re switching between two networks, such as moving from an OpenReach to Virgin Media. In that case, you will need to contact your old provider to inform them of the cancellation.
11Mbs for a Standard broadband connection would be okay for 1-2 people, which is suitable for browsing and social media activity. For busier or heavier usage that includes streaming in HD or 4K, we would recommend between 36Mbs – 100Mbs.
To stream in standard definition, you need 1Mbs. However, streaming content in high definition will need 3-5 Mbps, with 4k/UltraHD needing 15Mbps. When ordering a new broadband package, your service provider should confirm the minimum connection achieved at your address.
Absolutely! When completing your new broadband and phone package registration, you will be required to input your current landline number, so they can transfer it onto their network (known as porting). Or you can choose a new number.
