If you have never felt short of screen, a flat iPhone does the same camera and software jobs for less weight and less money, and the iPhone 18 Pro is the one to look at instead.

Every folding phone so far asks for trade-offs, and the Duo is no different. It weighs 254g, which is more than any flat iPhone you can buy on contract today, and closed it is two layers of phone thick. The outer 5.4-inch display is smaller than the screen on a standard iPhone, so you will open it more often than you might expect. A 60W USB-C adapter takes it to 50% in around 20 minutes, and MagSafe or Qi2 charging runs at up to 25W. Treat the hours as Apple's best case: two screens will want charging every night, and heavy inner-screen use means topping up during the day.

The iPhone 18 Pro Max is the other way to get a big Apple screen. It is flat, lighter than the Duo and carries the complete 48MP triple camera, including the zoom lens the Duo leaves out. The Duo answers with a screen that unfolds past anything a flat phone can offer, then shuts into a smaller body. Pick the Pro Max if photography and battery life come first. Pick the Duo if the folding screen is the thing you actually want, because you are paying for it in weight and in price.

Storage runs from 256GB through 512GB and 1024GB to 2048GB, and there is no card slot to add more later. Folding phones tend to get used like a tablet, for downloaded video, documents and two apps at once, so storage fills faster than on a normal phone. Treat 256GB as the floor, step up to 512GB if you shoot a lot of video or keep films offline for travel, and leave the 1024GB and 2048GB tiers to people who already know they need them.
