Ofcom describes Starlink as the only low Earth orbit satellite operator offering broadband coverage across the UK, including harder-to-reach areas. Of its UK connections in 2025, more than 12,600 were in places with no decent broadband from a fixed line or fixed wireless network.
Every Starlink plan in our comparison runs on a one-month term, so there's no long contract to leave. Its listing with us also advertises a 30-day trial on the Residential plans.
There's no engineer visit and no phone line. Starlink's listing describes the kit as plug and play. The dish needs a clear view of the sky, and the listing warns it may be unsuitable for flats and high-rises.
In the data Starlink gave Ofcom for 2025, average download speeds were around 210 Mbit/s and average uploads around 20 Mbit/s. Ofcom adds that satellite services do not always guarantee a minimum speed.
Starlink is the satellite broadband service run by SpaceX. Its satellites fly in low Earth orbit, below 2,000km. Ofcom says that lets them deliver lower-latency services than older satellites, which helps with video calls and gaming. A dish at your home connects to them, so nothing depends on the phone line or cable in your street.
Take-up is growing. Ofcom counted more than 110,000 UK connections in 2025, up from around 87,000 the year before. It is also changing who can get decent broadband at all. Ofcom's Spring 2026 update counted 39,000 premises with no decent broadband from a fixed line or fixed wireless network. It put the number with no affordable decent option at 4,000, mainly because of lower-priced satellite services.
Our honest take: Starlink earns its place where the alternatives are poor. If full fibre, cable or a strong 5G signal reaches your address, those will usually cost less each month. If they don't, it may be the fastest connection you can get.
The entry home plan, listed at 100Mbps. That's enough for a household that streams, browses and makes video calls on several devices at once. It has the lowest monthly price of the three home plans.
The middle home plan, listed at 200Mbps. It suits a busier home, where several people stream in high definition or download large files at the same time.
The top home plan, listed at 400Mbps in our comparison. It's for heavy users who want the fastest speeds Starlink sells to homes. Keep Ofcom's caution in mind: satellite speeds aren't guaranteed.
A portable plan with 100GB of data a month, sold with either the smaller Mini dish or the Standard dish. Starlink's listing describes the Mini as best for portable use and says the plan can be paused. Roam carries a much higher upfront cost than the home plans, so it only makes sense if you need to take your connection with you.
The cheapest Starlink plan in our comparison today is Residential - 100 Mbps, at £40.00 a month and listed at 100Mbps. Every plan runs on a one-month term. The home plans carried a £19 upfront charge when we checked on 5 November 2026, and the two Roam plans £198 and £318.
The price isn't locked. Starlink's listing says the price could change, and it hasn't stated an amount, so our cost figures assume no rise. Because the plans roll monthly, you aren't tied in if a change doesn't suit you.
Prices can also depend on where you live. Ofcom noted in May 2026 that Starlink had introduced cheaper plans in selected parts of the UK. Check the final price for your address on Starlink's own site before you order.
Starlink vs Three. Three's home broadband also needs no phone line: a hub picks up its 4G or 5G signal. It costs less, but it depends on mobile coverage at your address and comes on a 24-month contract. Starlink works wherever the dish can see the sky, on a one-month term.
Starlink vs Vodafone. Vodafone sells 5G Broadband with an indoor or an outdoor hub, listed at 50Mbps or 150Mbps in our comparison. It works the same way as Three's, on Vodafone's mobile network, so it is worth checking where Three's signal is weak. It costs less each month than Starlink, on a 24-month contract with a price rise each April. Its listing says it is part of Ofcom's automatic compensation scheme, which Starlink isn't.
Starlink vs Quickline. Quickline builds full fibre and fixed wireless networks for rural homes in Yorkshire and Lincolnshire. Where its network reaches you, it offers speeds of up to 1Gbps on a fixed line. It is only an option where it has built, so check your postcode before you choose satellite. Starlink covers the addresses that regional networks like it haven't reached.
Every successful switch through Switchity plants two trees through our verified reforestation partner, Ecologi. A mature tree takes up about 22 kg of CO₂ a year, according to the European Environment Agency. Once grown, the 450 trees our switchers have funded could absorb around 9,900 kg of CO₂ a year.

For speed, the official figures are strong: Ofcom reported average downloads of around 210 Mbit/s on Starlink connections in 2025. Customer reviews are less kind. Its Trustpilot profile scores 1.6 out of 5 from 838 reviews. That is a small number of reviews beside the 110,000 UK connections Ofcom counted, so treat it as one signal among several.
The home plans in our comparison are listed at 100Mbps, 200Mbps and 400Mbps. Ofcom's 2025 figures, from data Starlink supplied, put average downloads at around 210 Mbit/s and average uploads at around 20 Mbit/s. Ofcom notes that satellite services don't always guarantee a minimum speed.
Plans in our comparison start at £40.00 a month. The home plans carried a £19 upfront charge when we checked on 5 November 2026. Ofcom says Starlink sells cheaper plans in selected parts of the UK, so check the price for your address on Starlink's own site before you order.
Every Starlink plan in our comparison is on a one-month term. Its listing also advertises a 30-day trial on the home plans.
Probably. Ofcom says Starlink offers satellite broadband coverage across the UK, including harder-to-reach areas. The practical test is the sky: the dish needs a clear view, and Starlink's listing says it may be unsuitable for flats and high-rises.
No. The dish connects to satellites, so no phone line is involved, and none of the plans we list includes a home phone.
It could. The plans roll monthly, and the listing says the price could change. Starlink hasn't stated an amount, so the costs we show assume no rise. With a one-month term, you aren't tied in if it does.
No. Starlink isn't among the providers signed up to Ofcom's automatic compensation scheme, which pays out for delayed repairs, missed appointments and late installations. If something goes wrong, you would need to raise it with Starlink directly.
Residential plans are Starlink's home plans, with unlimited data according to its listing. Roam plans are portable, come with 100GB of data a month in our comparison, and carry a higher upfront cost.
Every switch through Switchity supports reforestation and saves our community money on their broadband.
Savings are estimates: the typical bill our exit-fee calculator users report against comparable deals on our panel, applied per confirmed broadband switch. Ofcom finds in-contract broadband customers pay £7 to £9 a month less than out-of-contract customers (February 2026). How we work this out
